A chassis is the supporting frame of the vehicle. While a strong chassis helps keep a vehicle rigid, a chassis is exposed to shocks which can give rise to vibrations. These vibrations can stress and degrade vehicle parts and systems, and be transmitted into the cabin where they diminish the user experience.
Automotive NVH parts and products can be fashioned to absorb shocks and suppress vibration. These parts work by absorbing the energy of shocks and dampening vibrations. These parts can be made from traditional and advanced elastomers, foams and sponges, laminates and composites, and increasingly, plastics. NVH parts and products for soundproofing and sealing are used primarily to block the transmission of sound into the vehicle cabin interior. In some applications, such as seals for windows and doors, these parts and products also provide protection against the ingress of moisture and the elements into the vehicle cabin.
Because noise is a product of vibration, NVH parts and products are used to suppress vibration at its source where it could be transmitted into the vehicle cabin. As an example, a leading OEM in the luxury car segment turned to CRG for an NVH part designed to eliminate vibration and cabin noise resulting from the shaking of the windshield washer fluid reservoir bottle within its holder, under the hood.
