Automotive Rubber Parts for Vehicle Programs

The growing trend among automotive OEM’s to increase vehicle service intervals has made the use of advanced elastomers almost mandatory on today’s vehicles. At Canada Rubber Group Inc. (CRGI), we specialize in supplying vehicle OEM’s and their supply chains with automotive rubber parts molded or fabricated from high-performance elastomers.

Compounds that CRGI often uses for the provision of automotive rubber parts include the following:

  • Fluoroelastomers, including Viton®

  • AEM (Ethylene Acrylic Elastomer), including Vamac®

  • Nitrile (NBR) and Hydrogenated Nitrile (HNBR)

  • EPDM

Fluoroelastomers, such as Viton®, are extremely effective in vehicle applications where extremes of heat, chemicals, fuel mixtures, and fuel additives are present. With today’s stringent vehicle emission requirements, using these materials has become a proven way to reduce and prevent fugitive emissions. CRGI supplies a wide variety of automotive rubber parts made from fluoroelastomers, including those for fuel system applications, such as seals, cushions, and other components.

AEM is an advanced elastomer that is engineered for superior thermal and chemical resistance. Vamac® is an AEM that is widely used in automotive applications. Automotive rubber parts made from Vamac® demonstrate superior longevity in powertrain, air management, and other vehicle applications where parts are exposed to chemical and environmental attack.

Nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) is a resilient material that offers good resistance to oils and acids. CRGI uses NBR to fashion a wide variety of automotive rubber parts, including O-rings, gaskets and seals. HNBR is hydrogenated nitrile butadiene rubber. With the replacement of chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) refrigerant by R-134a in automotive air conditioning systems, HNBR provides excellent resistance to R-134a and is especially well-suited for servicing this type of application.

EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer (M-class) rubber) is a synthetic rubber that lends itself to a variety of automotive applications. It has excellent resistance to many chemicals, as well as ozone and weathering. At CRGI, we have used EPDM rubber and sponge to supply automotive rubber parts, including trim, weather seals, NVH parts, etc.

CRGI has supplied a variety of automotive rubber parts that meet ASTM D2000 line call-outs, as well as the material specifications of major automakers, including General Motors, Ford, Chrysler, Nissan, Mazda, BMW, Honda, Toyota, and Volvo.
