Ceramic Paper Gaskets

At Canada Rubber Group Inc. (CRGI), we are often asked to devise solutions that require the use of advanced materials. Examples of this are the ceramic paper gaskets and seals for high temperature applications that we create from ceramic fiber paper.

About Ceramic Fiber Paper

Ceramic fiber paper is an insulation and sealing media engineered for use in high temperature applications up to 1260°C (2300°F). Ceramic papers are manufactured with refractory ceramic fibers and organic binders to provide excellent handling characteristics and dimensional stability for use in critical applications where low thermal conductivity is critical. The material that CRGI uses to fabricate ceramic paper gaskets is an alumino-silicate ceramic fiber-based non-woven fabric. It is manufactured through a special paper-making process with high purity washed fibers, suitable for high temperature insulation up to 1260°C.

Ceramic paper is lightweight and thermally efficient. When used in a variety of heat processing applications, ceramic paper features good resistance to tearing, high flexibility, very low thermal conductivity and resistance to thermal shock. The binders used in manufacturing ceramic paper give it ideal properties for most refractory-type applications.

Ceramic Paper Gaskets, Seals and Other Solutions

Because of the uniform structure and smooth surface of ceramic paper, it can be used to fabricate products for high temperature seals and gaskets, as well as combustion chamber liners and spacers for heat treating gears and other industrial equipment and machine parts. Specific applications that can be serviced include the following:

  • Ceramic paper gaskets and seals for high temperature applications;

  • Insulation, lining and gasket for furnaces, kilns, ovens, stoves, boilers and appliances;

  • Wrapping for high temperature pipes or metal castings;

  • Aerospace insulation, protection and shields;

  • Thermal insulation, gaskets, seals, and separators for ceramic and glass melting applications;

  • Fire protection, spark and molten metal protection;

  • High temperature electrical insulation;

  • High temperature filtration.

In fabricating ceramic paper gaskets and seals, flexible graphite foil is sometimes added to the paper to create a non-stick solution. This mitigates the tendency of ceramic paper to stick to some metallic surfaces when exposed to heat.

If you have a high temperature application that would benefit from gaskets, seals, or other products fabricated from ceramic paper, our sales department will be pleased to speak with you about your needs. Please contact our sales department directly at crg@canadarubbergroup.com.
