FDA Approved versus Compliant
Unlike some other silicone sponge materials, the silicone sponge which CRGI uses has been tested and fully approved by the Food and Drug Administration for the full list of ingredients within the sponge formula. Most other FDA sponge products currently on the market, only state “compliance to” FDA standards, such as the extraction requirement. This does not mean the product is fully FDA compliant. In contrast, the silicone sponge used by CRGI can be officially called FDA approved. This sponge rubber is prepared using only ingredients that are permitted for use by FDA 21 CFR 177.2600.
The high temperature resistance of CRGI’s FDA silicone sponge sheet makes it a material of choice when high heat is being applied to food and beverage processes. With a standard temperature range from 230°C to -60°C, the material can be applied in extreme operating environments whilst maintaining its high performance sealing properties.
FDA Silicone Sponge Sheet: Applications and Products
Our FDA silicone sponge sheet can be used with complete safety in food applications, no matter whether the food material is dry, aqueous or fatty. Our food grade sponge can be used to fabricate a variety of products, most commonly as gaskets and seals which provide excellent sealing properties in equipment or machinery due to its exceptional compression set (5%) and high elongation of 500% to 600%. Gaskets and seals fabricated from our FDA silicone sponge sheet have extremely low water absorption properties, and water, dust and dirt ingress is prevented from entering equipment and affecting the product being processed.
