Thermally Conductive Silicone Sponge

Canada Rubber Group Inc. (CRGI) is now offering products made from disperseSil™ thermally conductive silicone sponge. disperseSil™ is a specially formulated closed cell silicone sponge that dissipates heat away from the source, thereby preventing overheating within an enclosed space.

disperseSil™ Thermally Conductive Silicone Sponge

disperseSil™ is an excellent material choice for gasketing and cushioning applications which require critical thermal transfer and sealing. This thermally conductive silicone sponge is predominantly closed cell in construction, with low water absorption (<5%) and provides dust ingress protection to IP65.

The IP number above refers to “Ingress Protection”. IP ratings are defined in international standard EN 60529. IP ratings are used to define levels of sealing effectiveness of electrical enclosures against intrusion from foreign bodies (tools, dirt, etc.) and moisture. The first number in an IP rating refers to the degree of protection afforded against intrusion by dirt or dust, rated on a scale from 0 to 6, with 6 offering the highest degree of protection (“totally dust tight”). The second number refers to the protection provided against moisture ingress, rated on a scale from 0 to 8, with 8 offering the highest degree of protection.

The IP65 rating of disperseSil™ means that gaskets and seals produced from this material offer totally dust tight protection together with defence against moisture from low pressure water jets in all directions. disperseSil™ gasket and seals will provide superior protection against dust and moisture ingress, while giving excellent thermal transfer performance across temperature ranges from -60°C to 230°C (an intermittent maximum temperature of 250°C is supported).

Applications for disperseSil™ Thermally Conductive Silicone Sponge

Applications supported by disperseSil™ gaskets and seals include those where the heat generated by an electronic device must be transferred to the ambient environment in order to ensure continued reliable operation. These applications include the operation of computers, communication equipment or similar electronic hardware.

In many electronic applications, the air trapped between heat generating devices, such as microprocessors, LED lights, etc. and a heat sink inhibits the effective transfer of heat from hotspots within the application to the ambient environment. Compressible thermal interface products fabricated from disperseSil™ can provide a thermal path between these hotspots and the ambient environment.

Products from disperseSil™ Thermally Conductive Silicone Sponge

Common applications that CRGI can service with products fabricated from disperseSil™ thermally conductive silicone sponge include the following:
