Rubber Products for Food Processing

A key challenge for food processors is the use of rubber products, such as gaskets and seals, that are manufactured from FDA-approved materials. Use of these products is required to meet regulatory guidelines, as well as ensuring that the risks of contamination are minimized. When choosing a supplier of rubber products for food processing applications, it is important to select a vendor with a proven capability in supply products that comply with FDA and other regulatory guidelines.

At Canada Rubber Group Inc. (CRGI), we recognize the importance of supplying rubber products for food processing applications that fully comply with product regulatory guidelines. Rubber products that we can supply include the following:

  • Food grade gaskets and seals, including FDA-approved materials

  • Sanitary gaskets and seals, including NSF 61 approved materials

  • Rubber couplings

  • Rubber shields

  • Dust covers

  • Suction cups

Rubber Products for Food Processing from CRGI

Products that CRGI produces for food processing applications are manufactured from materials compliant with FDA and other regulatory guidelines such as NSF 61. CRGI stocks a variety of silicone rubber materials that meet FDA requirements, including food-grade silicone rubbers that reduce the growth of MRSA, E. coli, and salmonella bacteria. In particular, food-grade silicone rubbers have outstanding characteristics that make it a preferred material for food processing applications. The temperature resilience of silicone rubber, together with its non-stick and inert properties, make it especially attractive for use in food production environments. In addition, additives may be included in the compound to address food processing requirements. For example, metectSil™ is a metal detectable silicone that includes additives that show up on a metal detectable scanner should the material degrade or decompose, and neutraSil™ is a compound containing silver ions that inhibit bacterial growth.

  • Nitrile rubber. Preferred in applications where oils and greases are prevalent.

  • EPDM rubber. With a higher heat resistance than nitrile rubber, food grade EPDM would be preferred where the high temperature tolerance of silicone is not required.
